Triceps Tendon Repair Orthopedic Surgeons NYC
Triceps tears are quite rare but do happen. A triceps tendon rupture can a result of overuse or from a trauma such as a fall or injury that places strain on the tendon and causes the fibers to tear.
Please note: A doctor’s referral is NOT necessary from a General Practitioner to see our sports medicine or orthopedic surgery specialists for a consultation, 2nd opinion, or for treatment at our orthopedic practice – including surgery.
We offer full out of network insurance benefits (we will contact your insurance company and submit for you). You will enjoy the luxury and benefit of academic medicine in a top rated concierge environment without the hassle of long hospital waiting room times and paperwork. Most policies reimburse patients for most of the cost of surgery. Our surgical coordinator will help you with a quote.
Diagnostic tests, treatments (oftentimes surgery) and sports medicine consultations can often be carried out on the same day. We offer true concierge medicine to all patients, irregardless of insurance. We have the ability to see our patients immediately; same day, nights and weekend and offer emergency services.
The following symptoms may occur as a result of a triceps tendon rupture:
- Trauma or injury
- Elbow swelling
- Pain or tenderness in the triceps muscle
- Pain when straightening the elbow/inability to straighten the arm fully
- Arm weaknesses
- A bulge or bump in the arm
- A popping sound or sensation in the elbow
Triceps tendon tears can be either partial or complete.
- Partial triceps tears. These tears do not completely sever the tendon.
- Complete triceps tears. A complete tear will split the tendon into two pieces.
Imaging Tests to diagnosis partial or complete biceps tendon injuries:
- X-rays. Although X-rays cannot show soft tissues like the triceps tendon, they can be useful in ruling out other problems.
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These scans create better images of soft tissues. They can show both partial and complete tears.
An open triceps tendon repair is the best orthopedic surgical treatment for a triceps tendon that has ruptured from its attachment on the back of the arm above the elbow. Triceps tendon ruptures MUST be reattached, or the patient will lose active motion of the arm/elbow and be unable to perform certain movements with the arm.
